New AI standards provide important building blocks for digital transformation – the integration of digital technologies into all areas of business, fundamentally changing the way you work and deliver value to customers.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world. Remarkable leaps in AI capabilities have led to a wide range of innovations, including autonomous vehicles and connected devices in our homes. At its core, AI is a set of computer algorithms designed to learn from data, make decisions, and make predictions. AI algorithms are used to identify patterns in data, classify objects and detect anomalies. By using large data sets and powerful computing resources, AI algorithms can “learn”. In other words, they can become more accurate and efficient over time. AI technology is used in various industries and applications. In the healthcare industry, AI is used to detect diseases, analyze patient data and automate administrative tasks. In the banking industry, AI is used to detect fraud and automate customer service. In industries like retail and e-commerce, AI is being used to personalize product offerings and optimize pricing. AI has the potential to revolutionize our lives, and its impact is already being felt. With the right investment and careful implementation, AI can help us create a better future for all.
What is an AI Ecosystem?
An AI ecosystem is a term used to describe the interconnected components of artificial intelligence, including hardware, software, data, and services. It is a complex network of technologies, tools and services that enable the development, deployment and use of AI applications. The AI ecosystem includes components such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and more. Companies and organizations can influence the AI ecosystem by investing in research and development, forming partnerships with other organizations, and providing resources to support the development of AI applications. In this new world, organizations need to be able to ensure that AI is used for people’s benefit without harming them.
Are there artificial intelligence standards?
Yes, there are. Artificial intelligence standards have been established by organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and others. and aim to ensure that AI is used responsibly and ethically, and to provide resources to support the development of AI applications.
ISO/IEC 22989:2022 “Information technology – Artificial intelligence – Artificial intelligence concepts and terminology” covers AI concepts and terminology, and ISO/IEC 23053:2022 “Framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems Using Machine Learning (ML)” describes a general framework for using machine learning (ML) technology. These new standards will help organizations better understand the use of AI and better assess and manage the risks associated with it. They also provide the necessary guidance for the adoption and responsible use of AI, as well as promote an ethical approach to the development and use of AI. ISO/IEC 22989 provides a standardized definition of AI and AI, as well as tools for measuring the effectiveness of AI systems. This will help organizations develop and implement AI solutions that meet their specific needs. ISO/IEC 23053 helps organizations identify and manage risks associated with the use of machine learning, such as data privacy and security. It provides guidance on the use of AI for decision-making processes and its implications for human rights and data protection. Armed with these standards, organizations will stay abreast of the latest developments in AI and ensure that their AI solutions are reliable, ethical and compliant with applicable laws and regulations. They will help organizations adhere to best practices in the use of AI and promote the responsible development and use of AI.
The ISO/IEC Committee on Artificial Intelligence is currently developing the AI standard ISO/IEC 42001 “Information technology – Artificial intelligence – Management system”. This standard will provide a framework for organizations to adopt and use when developing, implementing and managing AI systems. ISO/IEC 42001 will be what is known as a “management system” standard developed specifically for AI. Given that AI is so far-reaching, it is expected that ISO/IEC 42001 will become an integral part of an organization’s success, as will established management system standards such as ISO 9001 in quality management, ISO 14001 in environmental management, and ISO/IEC 27001 in cyber security. The draft standard is available for public comment in the winter of 2022/2023, with a deadline for comments of 10 January 2023.
AI and AI can improve decision-making, reduce costs, accelerate decision-making and help identify new opportunities. They can also be used to reduce risk and increase efficiency. AI and MO can also help identify and mitigate threats before they become a problem. AI and AI can also be used to improve the security of systems – to detect malicious activity, such as cyber-attacks and malware, and identify weaknesses in systems before they become a problem.
